BJP claims success of on-day hunger strike in Kaluk

DISTRICT AUTHORITIES GIVEN ONE MONTH TO INVESTIGATE MISAPPROPRIATION ALLEGATIONS
GANGTOK, 27 May: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Sikkim-unit has claimed that its one-day hunger strike at Kaluk in West Sikkim in protest against misappropriation of government fund in the execution of various schemes in the area on Thursday as a ‘huge success’ which received a positive and encouraging response from the people of the area”.
Following the hunger strike, the party submitted a memorandum to the District Collector [West] to “either black list the contractors of six incomplete projects or to immediately complete the incomplete works with its actual sanctioned cost today”.
The memorandum has also given an ultimatum of 30 days to the District authorities to do so failing which the BJP will launch an indefinite hunger strike and use ‘other democratic weapons”.

The state-unit secretary, Laten Sherpa, sat on a hunger strike yesterday at Kaluk Bazaar from 10 am to 4 pm and was joined by 22 members of the party, including the state-unit president, Padam Bahadur Chettri. The memorandum was submitted today.
The party has listed six works in the west district; “fund misuse in construction of Jail Building in Middle Geyzing, laxity and misappropriation of widening of Kaluk-Soreng and Kaluk-Rinchenpong roads, construction of tourist lodge at Sanga Dorjee, Namgong, Rinchenpong, misappropriation of MG-NREGS works in Sumbuk Jhora at Bermiok and in the repairing of Sakyong School playground and delay in payment of PMGSY compensation at Toyang below Geyzing Bazaar”.
The party has called on Sikkim-BJP the district administration into enquire on these projects and take suitable action within one month.
Addressing a press conference today, the Sikkim-BJP president mentioned that the hunger strike at Kaluk was “just a warning” to the state government and an unveiling of the real condition of the west district.
“If the district collector does not take appropriate action, then the party will protest using all the democratic weapons”, he said.
He also informed that if no action is taken from the DC then the party will also file a criminal case against the DC and will take him as being responsible for all misappropriation and misuse of the government funds.
On the Chief Minister’s state tour, Mr Chettri informed that the party will not allow the CM to enter West district and will block the roads.
