Namchi Councillors complete year in office with open discussion


Namchi, 27 May: Namchi Municipal Council today organized its first Annual Day meeting here at Namchi Central Park with the Namchi Singithang MLA Binod Rai present as chief guest accompanied by South Zilla Upadakshya Himal Tamang as Special Guest.
The meeting featured the airing of grievances and sharing of suggestions.
On the occasion, representatives from all seven wards of Namchi Municipal Council placed their demands and suggestions with the Municipal body. These were later discussed in detail.

While presenting the annual report, the NMC Chairman BT Tamang informed that out of Rs. 34.86 lakh allocated to the Council, Rs. 24 lakh was utilized in different sectors under Namchi Municipal Council till 31 March, while the remaining Rs. 10.86 lakh has been kept aside for the vexed problem of garbage management in Namchi.
He also presented a detailed account of the fund utilization.
Here, the NMC Chairman urged the people to cooperate with the Council, especially in garbage management.
Similarly, Vice Chairman NH Ansari, while presenting the welcome address, stated that the NMC has many responsibilities and duties to carry out which will require the cooperation of the residents.
He also placed the future programmes of the NMC and assured that the genuine requirements will given top priority in all plans.
Councilor Tarkeshwar Prasad, Who was also the Master of Ceremony, highlighted the there are some basic systems which need to be changed at the primary level. He expressed his disappointed over the high-handedness with which hawkers here were not allowing the rural folk the space to display their products during Haats and urged them to show some consideration.
The MLA congratulated the Councillors on successfully completing a year in office and appreciated the open discussion organized by NMC to understand the needs of the people.
He further said that the beautification of Namchi has been well received by all and thanked Chief Minister Pawan Chamling for the vision with which he directed the process and highlighted that now it was the duty and responsibility of residents to take care of the facilities created.
On the occasion he also suggested that NMC impose a fine against those who display inconsiderate civic sense like releasing their septic tanks into jhoras instead of having them cleaned properly.
Regarding the drinking water scarcity, he said that the Chief Minister himself has expressed concern on the matter and a project of Rs 100 crore has been sanctioned for the same.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Deputy Municipal Officer Dushyant Pariyar. It was also attended by CMO Namchi District Hospital Dr. Bimal Rai, Officials from UD&HD, Power and other line departments.
