‘Sikkim Youth’ convenes North district coordination meeting

MANGAN, 12 April: The “Sikkim Youth”, introducing itself as a non-political organization formed to check corruption in the State, organized a district-level coordination meeting at a hotel here today.
The meeting was addressed by Sikkim Youth representatives Karma Chewang Bhutia, Sonam Gyatso Sherpa and Birendra Dhakal of South and East districts and attended by around 20 youth from North Sikkim.
In open discussion, the “Sikkim Youth” representatives reiterated their apolitical credentials and informed that they have come together to collaborate in efforts to lay the ground-work for constructive initiatives in the interest of future generations and to curb rising corruption and crime in Sikkim.

Admitting that they had taken on a challenging task, the group stressed that with a positive outlook and earnest and dedicated effort, they will be able to contribute something substantial for the society at large without acquiring any political colour.
The meeting stressed that trust will need to be built among supporters of the effort. “To make changes, we do not have to change the players but change the Game according to the situation,” they stressed.
The meeting also resolved to support the Anna Hazare in his anti-corruption battle being waged from the platform of the Jan Lokpal Bill and also decided to form a district-level committee soon. It was also decided that members share responsibilities and consciously strive not to be politically “misused”.
The meeting was also informed that “Sikkim Youth” plans to take out rallies at the district level on 20 April to raise various Sikkim-specific issues, protest against “white-collar criminals”.
