Namchi begins monsoon preparedness with extensive cleanliness drive

NAMCHI, 10 April: The Namchi Municipal Council [NMC] began a cleanliness drive across town on Friday. The initiative is to continue till 15 April. This cleanliness drive is also a preparedness drive for the coming monsoon, and if required, will be extended further depending on the progress of the work and condition of the area, informed Deputy Municipal Officer, Dushyant Pariyar.
Areas under the jurisdiction of NMC are being cleaned, specially the blocked jhoras and drains so that the rainwater does not cause any harm to residential areas and roads. At the same time, this would also help pre-empt any untoward incidents during the monsoon season resulting from spill-over from these storm water drains.

This cleanliness cum preparedness drive has been initiated by NMC supported by Garbage Management Committee of Namchi and coordinated by the Urban Development and Housing Department.
On the first day, the task of cleaning started from the premises of Bhanu Udyaan. In the days to come, strict measures will be taken when it comes to dumping and other uncivil and potentially dangerous practices so that people can be made aware of the perils of such practices, informed Mr Pariyar.
