CM’s Archery Gold Cup begins


GANGTOK, 10 April: The twelfth edition of the Chief Minister’s Gold Cup Archery Tournament was inaugurated by the Speaker, Sikkim Legislative Assembly, KT Gyaltsen, on Saturday at Sikkim Archery Association archery field, Tathangchen. The inaugural match was played between Sichey and Navey, which the former won 56-30.
The spectators were expecting Sichey to finish the game before lunch break, given their good start, but a good came back by Navey’s archers breathed life into the contest even though the eventually lost.
The inaugural match was also attended by the PHE Minister, TT Bhutia, who is also the SAA president, and former MLA, Kunga Zangpo Bhutia among others.

A total of 15 teams from across the state and Bhutan are taking part in this knock-out tournament, which has been organised by the Sikkim Archery Association.
The three teams from Bhutia are Thimpu United, Bhutia United [Pheuntsoling] and Penden Cement archery team, while the local teams are Pakyong, Maenamla [Rabong], Shotak, Tathangchen [Blue], Tathangchen [Red], Ranka United, Gangtok, Todey-Tangda, Mangan and Kabi-Lhungchok United.
The matches will be played from 9 AM to 5 PM and the team which hits 51 points first will win. If both teams fail to score 51 points by the end of the day the team with the highest score will be declared winner.
The winner and runner-up teams will be awarded with the cash prize of Rs 51,000 and 25,000 respectively with the trophies.
The final match of the tournament is scheduled to be played on 24 April.
