World Population Day observed at Namchi


NAMCHI, 11 July [IPR]: World Population Day on the theme ‘Planned family happy family’ was observed today at the Conference Hall of District Hospital Namchi. The chief guest for the event was NMC (Vice Chairman), NH Ansari.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ansari congratulated the doctors and ASHA workers for the successful organization of the World Population Day event. He emphasized on the importance of the schemes available at the district hospital with the aim to control population in the state. Additionally he also lauded the Chief Minister's various health schemes which the local residents can avail of and also assured that NMC will soon be providing an ultrasound machine to the district hospital.
NMC Councilor, Tarkeshwar Prashad underlined the theme of the program and appealed to the gathering to disseminate the idea of family planning verbally to other people in their community.
DMS (South) Dr. Baroon Subba highlighted the aim of World Population Day which is to raise awareness on the requirement to control population in Sikkim through health services along with each person’s support. Under the theme ‘Planned family, happy family’ he underlined the three components to manage population which are delayed conception, spacing between conception and limited conception. He also enlightened the gathering about the importance of institutional delivery followed by immunization of the child. He also spoke on diseases like Reproductive Tract Infection (RTI) and Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) and their treatment available at the district hospital.
SDPHNO, Tarun Rai spoke about various temporary and permanent family planning methods available at the district hospital. Stressing on the same, Ms. Rai updated about preventive temporary methods available which are oral pills, use of condoms, Intrauterine Device (IUD) and Postpartum Intrauterine Device (PPIUCD). Under the permanent family planning method she informed about Tubectomy and No-Scalpel vasectomy (NSV) available for both females and males respectively alongside a monetary incentive available for the same.
DRCHO, Dr. Junita Yonzon spoke on the significance of family planning and educated the masses on the ideal age for women to conceive and also the gap between pregnancies.
Dr. Yonzon also underlined various schemes like Janani-Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK) and distribution of free tablets of Weekly Iron Follic acid Supplement (WIFS) and Iron Folic acid supplement (IFS) accessible at the district hospital as well as the Integrated Child Development Service [ICDS] centers.
Earlier the event was started by DD IEC, CL Pradhan and the vote of thanks was given by DPHNO, Vijay Lakshmi Rai.
