Grand Bhanu Jayanti celebrations in Jorethang

JORETHANG, 13 July [IPR]: The 200th birth anniversary of Adi Kavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya organized by the Jorethang Bhanu Jayanti Organizing Committee was observed with much fanfare and gaiety at Jorethang volley ball ground today.
The event was attended by Minister of Healthcare Human Services & Family Welfare and Animal Husbandry Livestock & Veterinary cum MLA, AK Ghatani as the chief guest alongside lecturer, Dr. Pushpa Sharma who attended the event as the special guest.
The day’s event commenced with offering of prayers and garland at Bhanu Salik area followed by the Sobha Yatra which took off from Housing colony till the Akar Bridge after which the cultural proceedings of the day kicked off at the assigned venue. President of Jorethang Bhanu Jayanti Organizing Committee, Raj Mohan Pradhan welcomed the guests and gathering at the onset of the program.
Chief guest, Mr. Ghatani addressed the gathering and laid down the significance of observing statewide Bhanu Jayanti celebrations at such a grand scale. Sighting Adi Kavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya as an inspiration, Mr. Ghatani remarked that Bhanu Bhakta Acharya laid the foundation of Nepali literature and that the present and the coming generation should draw inspiration from his work as well as Nepali heritage. In addition, he also expressed his delight and contentment on the organizing committee’s effort in successfully organizing the program on a grand and magnificent scale.
The day’s event saw Ramayan Path, Kavita Path (poem recitation) and Lok Geet being presented by the winners of the said competitions which was held earlier on 11 July in Jorethang. The winners of the Ramayan Path in the first, second and third positions were Gelling school, St. Francis school and Prashanti Vidyagiri respectively.
Similarly, the first position in Kavita Path in the senior category was conferred to Snigdha Basnett followed by Deepesh Rai and Dawa Doma Sherpa in the second and third positions. Subarna Paraju, Jai Mani Pradhan and Jerina stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the juniors' category.
Likewise, schools that performed exceptionally and bagged the winner’s title in Lok Geet were Kamling Government Secondary school alongside St. Francis school and Pipalay school who finished off in the 2nd and 3rd positions. Exam toppers of C.B.S.E and I.C.S.E boards were also felicitated on the occasion by the chief guest and special guest present.
The program was also addressed by Dr. Pushpa Sharma who spoke about the innumerable contributions of the greatest poet, writer and thinker in Nepali literature and society. Colorful dance performances by students of Taal Music Academy and winners of Lok dance competitions formed the cultural highlights of the day.
Also present on the occasion were officials of various Government departments, Nagar Panchayat members, NGOs, clubs, students and public of the adjoining areas.
