Sikkim-BJP prepares to initiate membership drive

GANGTOK, 05 June: Energised by the party’s phenomenal performance in the Lok Sabha elections elsewhere in the country, the Sikkim unit of the Bharatiya Janta Party has announced plans to launch a massive membership drive in Sikkim. This was among the several resolutions passed by the party at its meeting held here today chaired by Sikkim-BJP president, Palden Khangsarpa, and also attended by the party’s Sikkim in-charge, Dr Dineshanand Goswami.
Addressing a press conference later, Dr. Goswami informed that after thorough discussions and deliberations, the meeting decided to expand the organizational base of the state-unit. For the same, the party has invited applications from people to take membership of the party. This is open till 15 June. It is informed that after scrutinizing these applications, the party will be holding a mass membership drive by the end of the month or in the first week of July.
Dr Goswami further informs that the meeting also reviewed the performance of the party in the recent assembly and parliamentary elections in the state. He added that BJP candidates will be visiting all 13 constituencies they contested from to thank the people for their support.
Speaking on other decisions of the meeting, he mentioned that the party will be constituting district committees very soon along with women and youth cells of the party.
Dr. Goswami also announced that the BJP will be contesting the bye-election from Rangrang-Yangang constituency. While condemning the attack on BJP supporters houses after the election, he mentioned that the party has already taken this matter to the Union Home Ministry. He also warned the state government against violating the fundamental rights of the people.
