Sikkim MPs follow up Karmapa to Sikkim request with Union Home Minister


GANGTOK, 30 Nov: In a follow up to the Chief Minister’s request to the Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde to allow Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje to visit Sikkim [in March for inauguration of the Tathagatha Preserve in Rabong], Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs of Sikkim, PD Rai and Hishey Lachungpa, called on the Home Minister on 27 November.
The MPs from Sikkim have been pursuing the matter at the Centre regarding the request made by the CM recently to allow Ogyen Trinley Dorje to visit Rabongla in South Sikkim during the consecration of the Buddha Statue-cum-Eco garden in March next year, a release underlines.
Mr Rai and Mr Lachungpa met the Minister on 27 November at his North Block office at Raisina Hill and also today at the Parliament House reiterating the request to allow the Karmapa to visit Rabongla in March 2013.
On both the occasions, the Home Minister took the request on a positive note and assured to look into the matter.
The MPs also apprised Mr Shinde that in the event of a clearance from the Ministry, the State Government was fully committed to make all security arrangements and abide by all instructions of the Centre regarding the visit.
