300 plus families move into CMRHM pucca houses in South Sikkim

DISTRICT AIMS AT HITTING 600 BY 31 MARCH 2012

PURAN TAMANG
NAMCHI, 22 Nov: The number of families moving into the pucca houses constructed under the Chief Minister’s Rural Housing Mission in South district has crossed the 300 mark. The tempo of this mission mode scheme has picked up in the district.
The face of villages in the district has drastically changed with pucca houses dominating the rural landscape. The increasing number of families moving into these pucca houses has also boosted the public’s morale in their quest for more viable social and economic independence.
The CMRHM scheme is moving smoothly in the South district due to the collective effort of the beneficiaries concerned, the implementing Department, Panchayats, the BRHCC headed by the respective MLAs and above all the monitoring by the State Government. While an independent BRHCC (Block Rural Housing Construction Committee) closely oversees the implementation of the scheme, the recent appointment of Special Officers (Class I officers) from various Departments of the state government for monitoring of REDRH (Reconstruction of Earthquake Damaged Rural Houses) together with CMRHM has come as an added advantage.
The Special Officers appointed have been given the task of verifying the status of the scheme physically who will be reporting to the government periodically and suggesting necessary steps that may be required to be taken up by the implementing Block and the concerned department.
Now, with the newly elected Panchayat team, the District Administration of Rural Management & Development Department, Namchi is even more confident of providing continued leverage to CMRHM with renewed zeal and enthusiasm. The District Administration has been able to allocate the CMRHM fund judiciously as per the actual progress of construction in Blocks which to a great extent has helped the District to attain this target of completing 300 plus houses.
The district has set the target of handing over more than 600 houses by 31 March next year. South district is also gearing up to complete 50% of the houses under REDRH within the same time frame.
