Road mishap on Tibet road leaves 8 injured


GANGTOK, 19 Oct: Eight persons were injured while three vehicles and one shop were damaged when a van [Ecco] lost control on Tibet Road, this afternoon.
The van, carrying students and their parents, first hit a taxi [Alto] opposite the IPR office and then hit another taxi [Maruti van] at the Y-junction just before the Axis bank ATM at around 1:30 PM. The Alto which was hit by the Ecco also damaged one Tendol Bhutia’s shop opposite the IPR office.
The driver of the Ecco, Sukman Rai [40] of DPH along with students of TNA, Siddharth Sarda [14] of Lall Bazaar, Prasi Agarwal [12] of Tibet Road, Neha Agarwal [9], Anish Agarwal of Tibet Road and one of the parents, S Agarwal [38] of Tibet Road sustained minor injuries.
39-year-old, Tshering Bhutia who was in the Alto and one pedestrian, Md Mustak, a tailor from Darjeeling Store also sustained injuries in the accident. All victims and drivers were sent for medical treatment immediately.
The driver was arrested by the Sadar Police and booked under sections 279, 336, 337 and 427 of the IPC and sections 177 and 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
