31/32 legislators vote for the 13th President of India


GANGTOK, 19 July: The election for the 13th President of India, in Sikkim, took place at the Sikkim Legislative Assembly Secretariat in the presence of the official Observer, Dr Rajendra S Shukla and Presiding Officer/ARO-cum-Secretary, SLA, D Rinchen.
The voting took place in a secret ballot system, wherein an electoral college consisting of Members of Parliament and the Legislative Assembly participated in the election process. Voting took place between 9 AM to 5 PM. The Chief Minister arrived at around 11 AM to cast his vote.
Presiding Officer / ARO-cum-Secretary SLA, Mr Rinchen informs that out of the 32 legislators of the State Legislative Assembly, 31 exercised their franchise along with one Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, at SLA Secretariat, Sikkim which accounts for 97% of the votes. The Upper Burtuk MLA, PS Tamang, was the only legislator who did not vote today.
