GANGTOK, 01 Mar: A Parliamentary Committee team consisting of nine members headed by Parliamentarian Sitaram Yechuri who are here in Sikkim to carry out a study on Transport, Tourism and Culture visited numerous tourist destinations across state.
The team arrived in Sikkim on 28 February and on 29 February they visited Samdruptse, Solophok and other tourist spots developed by the state government recently to see how much development under tourism sector has been initiated and the visiting team is scheduled to leave the state on 02 March.
The visiting team has appreciated the development under tourism sector initiated by the state government and have also assured of extending every possible help in the related sector in the days ahead, it is informed.
The purpose of the visit by the team, it is learnt is to interact with various state and central government agencies in the state to understand the ways and means of carrying forward development in tourism and other allied sectors in future in Sikkim.
Likewise, on the evening of 29 February, a meeting was also held here in the capital which was attended by the visiting parliamentarians along with the state and central government agencies. The state team that attended the meet was headed by Development Commissioner, Secretary Finance, Secretary Tourism, Chief Engineer Transport, officials from Transport, Tourism, Roads, and Culture departments.
Likewise the representatives from Archeological Survey of India, Pawan Hans, Airport Authority of India, Ministry of Road and Surface Transport, Government of India and Ministry of Tourism, GOI had also
joined the meeting.
The meeting discussed issues pertaining to tourism and other allied sectors relating to the state.
The parliamentary committee that visited Sikkim is the committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture.
Today, half of the members of the committee are on their visit to Rumtek, Khangchendzonga Amusement park, Ranka, Banjhakri falls and the remaining are headed towards Nathula pass. It is informed that the members after their visit are likely to call on the Chief Minister at his official residence and will also be holding a meet with Border Roads Organisation later during the evening.
