State Junior Boys football team to participate at the 48th Junior Nationals


GANGTOK, 18 Jan: The Sikkim Football Association (SFA) has sent a 24-member Junior Boys Football team to participate in the 48th Junior National Football Championship for Dr. B.C. Roy Memorial Trophy 2012 to be held at Cuttack, Orissa from 19 Jan 2012.
The tournament is being organised by the All India Football Federation. In the preliminary round, Sikkim has been placed in cluster "A" along with Chhattisgarh, Gujarat and Jammu & Kashmir. While Sikkim will play their first match on 19 Jan against J & K, their second match is against Chhattisgarh on 21 Jan and their third match is on 23 Jan against Gujarat, informs an SFA release.
A 15-day coaching camp for the championship was conducted at Paljor Stadium, Gangtok. The team will be led by Manager, Norbu Sherpa and its captain Kinthup Ongpo Lachungpa.
The team comprises of Gyurmit Gyatso, Kumar Chhetri, Dawa Lhendup Sherpa, Nikhil Raj Rai, Sonam Tshering Bhutia, Naresh Chhetri, Roshan Pradhan, Chandra Tamang, Pema Tamang, Chewang Zangpo, Bijay Mukhia, Jorthing Lepcha, Kinthup Ongpo Lachungpa, Amos Thapa, Nabin Gurung, Bikash Pradhan, Sunny Rai, Ram Chhetri, Suman Rai, Bikram Lohar, Sujit Rawat and Anup Rai.
While releasing the final list of players to the media at Paljor Stadium, Gangtok today, Mr Menla Ethenpa, General Secretary, SFA said that he is grateful to Nima Thendup and his colleagues for imparting coaching to these boys before leaving for the tournament, the release informs. He said that SFA has high expectations from these boys to perform well in the tournament.
President, SFA, BK Roka has also extended his good wishes to the team, the release adds.
