SIKKIM STATE BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIP CONCLUDES
GANGTOK, 11 Sept: The 23rd edition of the Sikkim State Badminton Championship concluded here at the Paljor Stadium indoor badminton gymnasium hall today.
More than 350 players from around the state compete in the five-day long championship, organized the Badminton Association of Sikkim [BAS].
Sairus Chettri, Manish Subba and Akash Rai in Boys’ U-13 and Gaganhang Subba in Boys’ U-16 were picked as the Promising Players of the championship. Likewise, the winners of the different events in the championship were- Pranesh Rai in Boys’ U-13 Singles, Elina Lepcha in Girls’ U-13 Singles, Anish Chettri in Boys’ U-16 Singles, Ruchika in Girls U-16 Singles, Amon and Roman in Boys’ U-16 Doubles, Elina and Noppy in Girls’ U-16 Doubles, Amon Rai in Boys’ U-19 Singles, Indira Rai in Girls’ U-19 Singles, Roshan Rai in Men’s Singles, Indira Rai in Women’s Singles, Rewas and Ranjit in Men’s Doubles, Tamchey and Ruchika in Women’s Doubles, Dewakar and C Lhamu in Mix Doubles, Anand Bisht in Veteran’s Singles [42 plus], Rajendra and Ratna in Veteran’s Doubles [42 plus] and KJ Paljor and LB Rai in Veteran’s Doubles [55 plus].
Deputy Chairman State Planning Commission, Sanchaman Limboo, was present as the chief guest today and who gave away the prizes and certificates to the winners.
In his address, the chief guest encouraged players to practice more and work harder to achieve higher level of proficiency.
Mr Limboo also appreciated the efforts of the BAS in providing a platform to players from across the state through its tournaments and coaching camps. He also stressed the State Government’s priority on sports and encouragment for sportspersons through different programmes.
