PYKKA competitions and Tempo Lepcha Memorial I-Day Football tournament get underway at Samdong

UPPER SAMDONG, 05 Aug: The Late Tempo Lepcha Memorial  Independence Day Football Tournament kicked off here at Samdong Senior Secondary School ground on Wednesday with the Sports & Youth Affairs Minister, NK Pradhan, present as the chief guest accompanied by Tumin-Lingee MLA, Ugen T Gyatso Bhutia.

The PYKKA sports, sponsored by the Government of India in collaboration with State Government, also began for Tumin, Samdong and Rakdong zilla panchayats on the day. Competitions will be held in disciplines like football, archery, athletics, wushu etc. The first PYKKA football match was played between Namrang and Samdong which the former team won 4-2 goals in a penalty shoot-out. 
The first overall winner ward will be awarded with the cash prize of Rs. 20,000.
Meanwhile the Tempo Lepcha Memorial football tournament has attracted the participation of 22 teams.  The winners of the tournament will receive Rs. 25,000 in cash prize with the runners-up bagging Rs. 15,000.
