Manish returns with 3 medals from World Summer Games

PROUD FATHER CALLS ON PARENTS NOT TO HIDE AWAY SPECIAL CHILDREN
RANGPO, 10 July: “We should not hide our special children behind closed doors out of shame, fear or other reasons, and ensure that they receive adequate opportunities and human rights to explore their talent and potential,” said the proud father of Manish Dhakal, Dr BP Dhakal, at Rangpo on Friday.
21-year-old Manish received a warm reception on his return home after winning three medals in the World Summer Games-2011 at Rangpo.
This special athlete has won 2 silver medals and 1 bronze medal in the Bocce events in the World Summer Games held in Athens, Greece. He has won one silver medal each in the team championship and doubles event and 1 bronze medal in Single’s event.

Manish was accompanied by his proud parents, Dr Dhakal and Deepa Dhakal. National Volleyball coach from Sikkim, NK Chettri, accompanied the Indian contingent with his volleyball team.
Manish was received by members of Special Olympic Bharat, Sikkim Chapter, Spastic Society of Sikkim, Special Education and Rehabilitation Centre, organizations, and local gentry at Rangpo on Friday.
While thanking all for the grand reception, Dr Dhakal mentioned that it was a historic achievement for the state and also proves that “if we identify the potential of the special children and if they receive training and opportunities then they can achieve anything.”
He added that to win 3 medals in such a big platform was a big and encouraging achievement for the people that if the special children were and provided equal opportunities then they can enjoy normal fulfilling lives.
He also stated that the medals in the competition were the fruit of the consistent efforts and hard work of every concerned organization and individual in the state.
He added that by secreting away the special children, people were denying them their human rights that they should be provided with equal opportunities to bring them into the mainstream.
He also encouraged the people to assist special children receive their rights and become dignified citizen.
Treasurer, Spastic Society of Sikkim, CP Dhakal informed that in the past Nirmal Chandra Dahal won an Olympic gold medal in softball throw in the year 2007 held in China and Jeewan Mishra won a silver medal in alpine skiing in the World Games in 2009 in USA.
He mentioned that these three athletes have proven that if any special child receives proper care and training they can not only prove themselves but also make everyone proud.
The National Coach, Mr Chettri, informed that India fielded a 254 member contingent and won 230 medals in different events in the competition. The tournament was held from 19 June to 05 July.
