Slide damages house at Lower Tintek

MANGAN, 25 June:  Heavy rain on Sunday night triggered a landslide at Marchak, Lower Tintek, in East Sikkim damaging an ‘ekra’ cum wooden house belonging to Indra Bahadur Rai. Fortunately, no casualties were reported as the family members were out of station when the slide occurred.
The slide occurred around 9.30 PM right above the house and huge boulders brought along by the slide smashed half of the house. The bedroom along with the kitchen of the house has been completely destroyed.  The furniture, utensils and other belongings inside the house were also damaged.
However, some of the family members who were staying on rent in another house attached to Indra Bahadur Rai’s house managed to escape and were provided shelter by a neighbour.   Today, the family members along with the tenants have shifted their belonging and are temporarily residing with some of their relatives. Meanwhile, the ward panchayat, RP Ojha visited the spot today and assessed the damages.
