Jhora near Dikchu PHC poses threat to health staff and locals

MANGAN, 15 April:  A second night of heavy shower on 12 April forced the residents of Dikchu New Market and Dikchu PHC staff to spend a sleepless night. As the water flow between the PHC and staff quarters began to flood towards the PHC, the staff had to leave their quarters at night and seek shelter elsewhere. Heavy flow of water towards the Dikchu New Market also scared the people residing in the area into keeping awake all night.
Medical Officer, Dikchu PHC, Dr. Mohan Thapa while speaking to NOW! Informed that it is inconvenient to walk through this jhora for the health staff which is very risky when it rains and there is no alternate foothpath to cross over.  He also informed that the nearby jhora should be trained immediately as there is further risk during the coming rainy season. A view, that the local residents agree with and demand at the earliest.
Meanwhile, the ward panchayat, Kado Lepcha visited the spot and informed that he will submit a report to the District Administration immediately requesting for the needful to be carried out under the NC fund.  The representatives from District Hospital Mangan also visited the spot.
