Central Provident Fund Asst Commissioner visits Sikkim, verifies EPF Act implementation

GANGTOK, 15 Jan: The Additional Central Provident Fund Commissioner [WB,JH,NER], V Vijayakumar of the Employees Provident Fund Organisation, was on a Sikkim visit from 04 to 08 January 2015 to verify the implementation of Employees Provident fund and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952. He was accompanied by SB Sinha [Regional Provident Fund Commissioner - I, RO Jalpaiguri], SK Gupta [Regional Provident Fund Commissioner - HRO, Jalpaiguri], KN Tenzing [Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner, SRO Siliguri], TP Niroula [Enforcement Officer, SRO Siliguri] and A Sarkar [Enforcement Officer, SRO Siliguri].
As per a press release, on 05 January the officers met with DS Kunwar [Joint Labour Commissioner], KR Limbu [Joint Labour Commissioner] and Tashi Phintso Mapen [Inspector] of the Labour Department of Sikkim. The state Labour department assured all help in extending the benefits under the Employees Provident Fund and Miscellaneous Provisions Act 1952 to the workers of the state. The officers also met the representatives of some establishments in Sikkim who made an appeal for opening of Provident Fund office in the state. The representatives were informed that their proposal will be examined in consultation with the state government and appropriate action will be taken.
On 08 January the officers of Employees Provident Fund Organisation met with the Labour Minister of Sikkim, DD Bhutia, Secretary Depart of Social Justice and Empowerment [additional charge of Labour Department], K Jayakumar and officers of the Labour Department.
During the discussion the Minister raised the issue regarding opening of full-fledged Provident Fund office in Sikkim. The Labour department assured all help and cooperation in facilitating the opening of a full-fledged Provident Fund office in the state, the release adds.
