GANGTOK, 14 Jan: A forest fire at 7th Mile on Jahawarlall Nehru Road was reported this afternoon. It is learnt that the fire broke around 5 kilometers below the road near Bhusuk Khola and eventually spread up to the road level.
After receiving a fire call from a Chongey [near Bhusuk Khola] resident this afternoon at around 1:30 PM, a team from the Gangtok Fire Station led by Fire Station Officer Subash Subba immediately rushed to the spot. After reaching the spot, the fire personnel along with the Forest Department personnel started their operation to control the fire.
It is informed that after many hours of fire fighting on the slope below the road at 7th Mile, the fire was brought under control.
