Bhawanipur FC knocks out Dimapur FC to enter semis
GANGTOK, 05 Nov: Bhawanipur FC, Kolkata has entered the semi-final round of the ongoing 33rd All India Governor’s Gold Cup Football Tournament here at Paljor Stadium. In the quarter-final match played today, Bhawanipur FC led by Jose Barreto edged past Dimapur FC 3-1.
From the start of the match, Bhawanipur players maintained constant pressure on Dimapur FC by launching some good attacks and in the 13th minute, Jaganath Sana scored the first lead for Bhawanipur FC. Even as Dimapur tried its best to come back into the game, the first half ended with the score of 1-0 in favour of Bhawanipur FC.
In the second half, Amit Kumar Kundu headed the corner shot into the second goal for Bhawanipur FC in the 55th minute and within 3 minutes his teammate, K Kulothugan followed it up with one more goal in the 58th minute.
The face saver for Dimapur FC came in the form of a suicide goal by Sagram Mandi of Bhawanipur FC, who headed the ball into his own goalpost in the 77th minute. However, with the final whistle Bhawanipur FC entered the semi-final round with this win of 3-1.
Now, BSF Jallandhar will take on Southern Samity, Kolkata in the second quarter-final match tomorrow at 2 PM. The much awaited quarter-final match between Bhaichung’s United Sikkim Football Club and Three Star Nepal will be played on 07 November.
