Assembly of Sikkimese Monasteries seek State Honours and holiday on Lachen Rinpoche’s funeral

GANGTOK, 23 Sept: The Dre-Goen Jingkyong Tsogchen (Assembly of Sikkimese Monasteries) has requested the Chief Minister Pawan Chamling to accord all the due state honours to the kudung [mortal remains] of the late Lachen Gomchen Rinpoche and declare the day of his cremation as a state holiday.
In a letter to the CM, the Dre-Goen Jingkyong Tsogchen has stated that all the previous incarnations of the late Rinpoche have been accorded due honour with declaration of a state holiday to mourn their demise.
It is further mentioned that this would also enable his devotees, disciples and students from across the state to attend the funeral.
Meanwhile, the plans to hold the Lachen Rinpoche’s funeral in Lachen have been dropped after his mortal remains could not be flown to the village and travel over the roads is impossible at present. It is informed that his funeral will now be held at Enchey Monastery here on 26 September.
