Magisterial enquiry ordered into suicide of young bride

GANGTOK, 06 July: A Magisterial enquiry has been ordered into the suicide of a 23 year old bride who took her own life barely six months into her marriage. The deceased, a resident of Gangyap, Kaluk, in West Sikkim, had moved in to her husband’s house in Upper Lasso, Tashiding and was residing there with her in laws. As per reports, the woman was depressed and reportedly unhappy in her marriage. She is reported to have committed suicide on the morning of 05 July; her body was found hanging from the bedroom ceiling by her husband at around 5:30 in the morning. Though there is no evidence yet of any kind of harassment, a Magisterial inquiry was initiated as per provisions of section 173 (3) (i) of the Criminal Procedure Code which mandates such an enquiry into the cause of death of any woman who dies within 6 months of her marriage.
