Sikkim Lepcha Association congratulates Bharat Excellence Awardee, Karma Choter Lepcha


GANGTOK, 30 Nov: A meeting of the Renjyong  Mutanchi  Rong  Tarjum (Sikkim Lepcha Association) was held on 29 Nov at Development Area, Gangtok under the chairmanship of its President, Sonam Dupden Lepcha.

The meeting extended its heartfelt congratulations to Karma Choter Lepcha on being conferred the “Bharat Excellence Award” by the Friendship Forum of India which was presented during a seminar on “Economic Growth and National Unity” on 27 Nov held at India International Centre, informs a press release issued by the Association.  Mr. Lepcha was honored with this prestigious award in recognition of his outstanding performance and achievements in the field of engineering and for academic excellence.
It is to be mentioned here that Mr. Lepcha is the only son of Pemtuk Lepcha of Ramthang , a remote village under Kabi-Lungchok constituency in North Sikkim. Having completed his primary education from Govt. primary school Ramthang, he went on to pursue his secondary education from Govt.Sr. Sec school, Phodong and completed his 12th standard from Govt.Sr. Sec school, Mangan, the release informs.
He completed his graduation in civil engineering from the Institute of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow in the year 2003 and M.Tech with specialization in construction management from Indian Institute of Technology – Delhi (IIT-Delhi) in the year 2005.
Mr.Lepcha joined Teesta Stage III HEP (1200 MV) under M/s Teesta Urja Limited in the capacity of Engineer (civil) way back in 2005 at a very nascent stage of conceptualization of the project. Today while counting the success of M/s Teesta Urja Limited one cannot ignore the commendable service he rendered and contributed to bring this Mega Project to the stage where it stands today.
The release also mentions that he was the only Local Engineer to lead a tunnel project (site) as a Site In-charge/Site Manager even when he was at a very junior level. While all other sites are being led by senior officers with not less than 20 yrs of experience, with hardly one year of technical experience Mr.Lepcha was handed over one site for the execution of 3.7 km tunnel excavation at Adit III (Shipgyer) which with his excellent managerial and technical skills was successfully completed, the release adds.
At present he is associated with Greenko Group in the capacity of Asst. General Manager (AGM) for the development of 96 MW Dikchu Hydro Electric Project being developed by M/s Sneha Kinetic Power Project Pvt. Limited.
