Rangpo Post Office may be declared Heritage Post Office

GANGTOK, 05 July: The Rangpo Post Office may soon be declared as a Heritage Post Office, indicated Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology MP, Achyutan during an informal interaction with mediapersons at Rangpo last evening. He informed that the team will give its recommendations to the Centre which may take the necessary steps in this regard.

A Member of the Committee and Lok Sabha Member from Sikkim, RD Rai informed that a Heritage status will facilitate introduction of a number of modern facilities and services at the Rangpo Post Office, established in 1927, under ‘Project Arrow’ and will also convert it into a tourist spot.
He also said that the Rhenock Post Office, the first Post Office of Sikkim, too may be declared a Heritage Post office in the future.
Mr. Rai added that the Standing Committee will also visit Nathula today to have an on-the-spot assessment of telecom services in the border area,
Meanwhile, the Committee which has now arrived in Gangtok will be launching ‘Project Arrow’ at the Tadong Post Office in Gangtok today.
