Turuk-Ramabung GPU gets a new Veterinary Dispensary

NAMCHI, 15 Nov: Turuk-Ramabung Gram Panchayat Unit under Melli constituency has been provided with a two storied veterinary dispensary with six rooms at the total cost of Rs12 lakh. Today this newly constructed veterinary dispensary building was inaugurated by Area MLA, Tulshi Devi Rai.
After the inauguration of the newly constructed building, an awareness programme on livestock and poultry management was also organized by the department for the progressive farmers of the Turuk Ramabung GPU. The main resource persons, Deputy Director, Dr. Mala informed the farmers about dairy management, V.O, Dr. Phurba Lepcha about poultry management and V.O, Dr. Zerueh Bhutia about piggery management.
Addressing the programme, MLA, Tulshi Devi Rai said that animal husbandry has provided farmers with immense livelihood opportunities to become self reliant. Stating that the progressive farmers of Turuk Ramabung GPU will benefit from this new veterinary dispensary she urged the department officers to make this dispensary a full fledged facility.
Director AH LF &VS, Tilak Laksam in his address said that the people should make proper use of this new infrastructure. There is huge demand for meat, milk and eggs in Sikkim where the consumption is higher than production which means there are wide opportunities for the youth to earn and become self reliant, he further said.
Joint Director AH LF & VS (S) DP Pradhan while delivering his welcome address gave a brief introduction of the different policies and programmes of the government and also informed about the upcoming schemes in the village.
The programme was also addressed by the Panchayat President, Turuk GPU, Sarat Raj Pradhan and General Secretary, farmer’s club Turuk, Krishna Sat Rai wherein they placed different demands to the department.
Also during the programme, land donor for the department of AS LF & VS at Turuk GPU, Haresh Pradhan and Krishna Das were felicitated by the department while Harka Khaling, Kamal Pradhan, Dawa Tamang, Rabin Pradhan and Ralay Rai were presented with tokens of appreciation for their progressive work in dairy, poultry, piggery, etc. The department also distributed free medicine mixture, vitamin tablets, feed and fodder seeds to the progressive farmers.
The inauguration programme was also attended by the Director AH LF& VS, Dr. Tilak Laksam, JD AH LF &VS (S) DK Pradhan, Deputy Directors (S), Dr. Mala, Dr. Manjyoti Rai, Panchayat President Turuk GPU Sarat Raj Pradhan, officers from the department, members of farmers clubs and the progressive farmers from surrounding villages.
