GANGTOK, 11 Nov: A six-member Sikkim Amateur Swimming Association team is all set to represent Sikkim in the 65th edition of Senior National Aquatic Championship scheduled to be held at Ranchi, Jharkhand from 16 to 20 November.
The team members are Sonam Gyatso Nadi, Joy Gurung, Anirudh Pradhan, Dichen Choden, Pema Lhamu and Kritika Subba. The team will be accompanied by the team coach, P Chakraborty and team manager, Karma Sonam.
This is for the second time the state team is taking part in the Senior Nationals after its first participation in the year 2007.
Speaking to media persons today, the coach, Mr Chakraborty, mentioned that the team members had undergone a rigorous training session in the special camp for the championship. He mentioned that it was on the basis of the performance in the recent State Open meet that the swimmers had been shortlisted.
The Coach mentioned that these swimmers had shown great improvement in their performance and had the potential to perform well in the championships.
Mr Chakraborty mentioned that due to continuous efforts of the SASA the standard of swimming in the state had improved and that swimming was becoming more popular among the schools in the state.
“The participation in the Senior Nationals is also a big exposure to these swimmers where they will be able to see their icons and best swimmers of the country,” he said.
Likewise, the participants mentioned that they are all set to give a good fight in the championship. They mentioned that they have the confidence to do well and assured to put in their best efforts to put Sikkim on the top.
The team will be leaving on Saturday for the championship.
