NAMCHI, 16 Nov: District Collector [South], AK Singh, and three others filed their respective replies with the High Court of Sikkim yesterday in the contempt of court notice issued against them in connection with the sealing of the house of Nuk Tshering Bhutia [aka “Melli Sonam”] at Melli, South Sikkim last Friday.
The DC South, when contacted today, said that he was duty bound to the Court and had filed his reply on 15 November. He further informed that the court hearing on the case is slated for 22 November.
“I respect the notice and decision of the honorable court”, he stressed.
Regarding the reopening of the sealed house of Nuk Tshering Bhutia, the DC said that now the issue was with the High Court of Sikkim.
It may be recalled that Mr. Bhutia was served with a notice from the office of the District Collector alleging that his five storied RCC building had encroached upon PWD road reserve and forest land and was asked to vacate the building.
When the building was not vacated it was sealed with the order of the DM South and in the presence of SDM Namchi on 11 November. On the same day, the High court of Sikkim issued a stay order on the sealing process but before it reached the office of the DM South, the sealing process was over.
Following this, a contempt notice was issued against the DM South, the SDM Namchi, SDPO Jorethang, and Melli Police Station PI.
