GANGTOK, 11 Nov: Commemorating the Birth Anniversary of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, the first Education Minister of Independent India, the National Education Day was celebrated at Govt. Sr. Sec. School Assam Lingzey, East Sikkim, today, informs a press release.
On the occasion, the students along with the teachers organized a rally starting from the school compound up to the Shikharnath turning, a stretch of one and a half kilometer distance, the release informs. Various placards displayed by the students carried slogans on awareness about education and its importance in the society.
The school principal conveyed the message sent by the Prime Minister of India and the Chief Minister of Sikkim. The students staged a short play which reflected the importance of elementary education among the village folk, the release adds. The program concluded with the distribution of sweets among the students.
