KS Ranapaheli conferred Dr. Shova Kanti Thegim Memorial Award 2014

GANGTOK, 04 July: Poet Kalu Singh Ranapaheli was conferred the 17th Dr. Shova Kanti Thegim Memorial Award 2014 here at Gangtok today for his collection of poems, ‘Samaya Ko Galbandi’. The award includes a cash award of Rs. 21,001, a Tamra Patra and a Certificate which was presented to Mr. Ranapaheli by the chief guest, Dr. Bindhya Subba, a respected Nepali litterateur from Darjeeling.
The award, it may be recalled, has been instituted in the memory of the late Dr Shova Kanti Thegim who is the first Sikkimese woman to have received a Doctorate degree in Nepali literature. The award in her memory is presented by the Dr Shova Kanti Thegim Memorial Trust every year.
The chief guest, in her address spoke of Dr Thegim’s contributions in the field of Nepali literature, regarding which she stated that Dr Thegim’s efforts have guided others like her to also work tirelessly for the development and promotion of the language and its literature.
The Trust’s president, Dup Tshering Lepcha, Dr Thegim’s husband, briefly spoke on the life and contributions of Dr Thegim.
Mr. Lepcha also explained the working of the Trust and the selection process for the award.
Also on the occasion, two students of Paljor Namgyal Girls School, Anjana Sharma and Agnish Lepcha were presented with stipends of Rs. 2,001 and Rs. 1,500 respectively. They received the stipend for having excelled in Nepali in class X and for having continued studies in it in Class XI as one of their major subjects.

Entries invited for Dr. Shova Kanti Thegim (Lepcha) Smriti Puruskar 2012


GANGTOK, 20 March: The Dr. Shova Kanti Thegim (Lepcha) Memorial Trust has invited entries for the prestigious Dr. Shova Kanti Thegim (Lepcha) Smriti Puraskar 2012. Writers from Sikkim have been invited to submit entries – novels, short story collections, poetry, criticism and plays in Nepali published in the years 2008, 2009 and 2010 for consideration of the award on or before 21 April 2012. The Trust, in a move to ensure equal opportunity to all participants in the running, has also decided that only one entry per writer will be accepted for consideration. Intending participants are required to submit four copies of their works for necessary assessment and consideration.

Santosh Alley conferred Dr. Shova Kanti Thegim Smriti Puraskar

GANGTOK, 04 July: Respected litterateur from West Sikkim, Santosh Alley was awarded the 14th Dr. Shova Kanti Thegim [Lepcha] Smriti Purashkar- 2011 for his book “Karyang-Kurung ko Aakaash” today, on the birth anniversary of the Late Dr. Thegim.
The award was handed over by senior litterateur, Mahananda Poudyal, at the award ceremony organized by the Dr.  Kanti Thegim [Lepcha] Memorial Trust. The function was chaired by RP Poudyal.
Mr. Alley’s name was recommended by a two-tier selection committee constituted by the trust for his book Karyang-Kurung ko Aakaash collection of poems published in the year 2007.

Santosh Alley named for Dr. Shova Kanti Thegim Smriti Puraskar

GANGTOK, 15 June: Respected litterateur from West Sikkim, Santosh Alley will be conferred with the 14th Dr. Shova Kanti Thegim [Lepcha] Smriti Purashkar- 2011 for his book Karyang-Kurung ko Aakaash. Mr. Alley’s name has been recommended by the two-tier selection committee constituted by the Dr.  Kanti Thegim [Lepcha] Memorial Trust, which is sponsoring the award will be conferred on 04 July, the birth anniversary of Late Dr. Thegim.
For this award, books written/ authored by all levels of writers from Sikkim and published during the calendar years 2007, 2008 and 2009 in Nepali were eligible. Mr. Alley’s Karyang-Kurung ko Aakaash- a collections of poems was published in the year 2007.
Similarly, the Trust has also announced the name of Ms. Arapana Basnet as the winner of Dr. Shova Kanti Thegim [Lepcha] Memorial Prize and Stipend comprising a cash prize of Rs. 2001 as prize money and Rs. 1500 per annum as stipend for pursuing further studies in Class XI with Nepali as one of the major subjects.
