Namchi Sports Hostel triumphs at U-12 & U-13 AIFF Football Fest

NAMCHI, 30 Nov: Football fans in the state have another reason to cheer thanks to Namchi Sports Hostel.
Namchi Sports Hostel won the U-12 & U- 13 All India Football Federation Football Festival organized by the AIFF at Kalyani Stadium, West Bengal from 18-24 November. Junior football talents of the Namchi hostel secured 55 points followed by Delhi with 50 points and Maharashtra with 45 points.
Namchi Sports Hostel represented Sikkim in this event where budding football talents from 25 states participated. The Sikkim boys not only won the champion’s trophy but also impressed the organisers with their outstanding performance in this festival. The team, which was escorted by coach Suren Chettri and team manager Jigmee Bhutia, was also awarded the Fair Play trophy.
Selectors and organisers along with the Chief Coach of Indian Football team and Technical Director AIFF were all praises for the state’s contingent. The AIFF selectors also chose 15 players from the team for the AIFF Academy out of which 8 made it to the final list.
Three U-12 players Surag Chettri, Smiel Diyali and Ritik Rai and five U-13 players Namgyal Bhutia, Pratap Kumar Tamang, Biswa Kr. Darjee, Abinash Sharma and Anil Limboo were selected.
With this, Sikkim has set a record of providing the highest number of players from a state to a national academy as the number of players selected from other states is far lower than that of Sikkim. The 8 Sikkim players are among the total 52 players whose talents will be nurtured further in the academy.
After the AIFF camp, the U-12 and U-13 football talents will be taken into the India U-12 and U-13 national teams which will be announced formally in January next year.
It may be recalled here that, Namchi Sports Hostel was established by the State Government in 1999 to nurture raw football talents selected under the scheme ‘Search for more Bhaichungs’. The products of this Hostel have already set an example at the national and international level. Nirmal Chettri, Sanju Pradhan, Nim Dorjee Tamang, Asish Pradhan and Uttam Rai are some of the names that have made it big.

U-14 team from Namchi Sports Hostel leaves for Subroto Mukherjee Cup


NAMCHI, 03 Sept: The U-14 team of Namchi Sports Hostel left today for the upcoming Subroto Mukherjee Football Tournament in Delhi. The team, consisting of 17 players headed by their coach Suren Chettri and assistant coach Amosh Subba, will be representing Sikkim in the tourney. The team will first play its first match against Afghanistan on 07 September at Ambedkar Stadium.
Area MLA Namchi Singithang, Binod Rai, Joint Director (S/W) Sports and Youth Affairs, Kamal Chettri and Principal Namchi Sr. Sec. School met the team at Namchi Sports Hostel this morning and conveyed their best wishes for the tournament.
The MLA, while talking to the players said that this was a big opportunity for them to play in the national capital representing the state at the national level. Urging them to listen to their coaches, the MLA further said that this is an event where they can perform well and gain more experience.
Similarly, the JD while sharing his best wishes informed that Namchi Sports Hostel is selecting 30 such players each year under the scheme’ Search for More Bhaichungs’ and the experts were nurturing them will football skills here at the hostel. He further informed that, the government is providing them with free food and lodging facilities with the aim to produce skilled players.
It is due to this platform provided to the players by the government that players like Sanju Pradhan and Nirmal Chettri are making the state and country proud, he added. On behalf of the department the JD also congratulated Sanju Pradhan and Sunil Chettri and the entire Indian team for the victory in the Nehru Cup 2012. He also spoke about the achievements made by the Namchi Sports Hostel in the recent past.
Coach Suren Chettri while talking to the media personnel before leaving for Delhi said that though the players of Sikkim were really small compared to the other teams, they will definitely perform well and show their talents. This tournament will provide more experience to these upcoming football talents, he added.

20 shortlisted under ‘Search for More Bhaichungs’

NAMCHI, 10 May: The ‘Search for More Bhaichungs’ selection trials for U-13 football players was held today here at Singithang playground, Namchi, South Sikkim. A total of 105 young hopefuls from all over the State were tested for their skills by football coaches Suren Chettri, Mayal Lepcha, Amosh Subba and Jigmee Wangchuk, Joint Director (S/W) Kamal Chettri and Assistant Directors, Anand Prakash Subba and Sonam Palzor Lepcha.
The selection saw players being tested on different aspects of the game. Finally, the top 20 players were selected from the 105 participants.
Joint Director, Mr. Chettri informed that the 20 players selected will go through a final selection from which the final list of candidates to be admitted in the Namchi Sports Hostel will be decided.

NAMCHI, 31 Oct: A team of 17 players of Namchi Sport Hostel today left for the Under-14 Subroto Mukherjee Football Tournament 2011 scheduled to be held at Delhi from 5 November 2011. All 17 players are from Namchi Sports Hostel who will represent Sikkim in this tourney. The  team is being led by coach Suren Chettri and Manager Jigmee Bhutia.

Sinolchu FC felicitates Namchi Sports Hostel's star products

NAMCHI, 17 July: A friendly match was played at the Bhaichung Stadium here yesterday between Namchi’s Sinolchu Football Club and a team comprising of local soccer stars now playing at the national and international levels.
The match was organized by Sinolchu FC as a morale-booster for its players, by providing them a chance to measure their mettle against professionals who have established themselves. Also on the day, the club felicitated young soccer players for making the State proud with their achievements.
