Ward level training on organic farming at Syari

GANGTOK, 14 July: A Ward Level Farmer’s Training was held at Lower Syari under Syari Gram Panchayat Unit in East Sikkim. The training was organized by Mevedir, a service provider for organic certification based at Tadong, Gangtok in collaboration with Sikkim Organic Mission Cell, FS&ADD and HCCDD, Govt. Of Sikkim
A press release informs that 25 farmers under Sikkim Organic Mission of Lower Syari ward attended the day long orientation program. Various speakers informed farmers about organic farming and the certification process on the day.

During the program the participants were shown a documentary film through power point presentation on slow poisoning effect of chemically grown agricultural products by Sikkim Organic Mission Cell, Govt of Sikkim and also on preparation of bio pesticides and manure for effective organic farming, the release adds.

Organic farming training held for Martam-Nazitam farmers

GANGTOK, 10 July: Sikkim Organic Mission, Government of Sikkim in association with International Panaacea Limited [IPL] organized a training programme for the farmers of Martam Nazitam GPU in East Sikkim on 08 July.
A press release informs that the training program was organized in Chadey Ward where Santa Kumar Mukhia of IPL explained the process of organic farming and informed about different kinds of organic pesticides. A documentary film called “Slow Poison” also shown to the farmers and departmental staff.
Panchayat, Ishwari Prashad Sharma, Field Assistants, Tshering Doma Bhutia and Karma Tshering Bhutia, FS & ADD, Staff of IPL and farmers were present in the training program, the release mentions.

Chuja farmers trained on Organic basics

GANGTOK, 09 July: Sikkim Organic Mission, in association with International Panaacea Ltd, organised a training program on 08 July at Chuja ward during which Red Ant Control and seed treatment and Garlic Chilly solution methods through  organic process were discussed.
Panchayat Secretary Manit Chettri, Field Assistant Manbir Chettri, IPL staff and farmers were present for the training program.
The Sikkim Organic Mission has made such trainings mandatory for and IPL is conducting such ward level training programmes in its allocated area, the release states.

Training on Organic Farming and Certification Process held at Namli

GANGTOK, 18 June: Ward level training on concept of organic farming and certification process were organised in all the five wards under Namli GPU, East Sikkim to promote organic farming.
The training was conducted in Chuba [03 June], Khimsitang [05 June], Tumlabung [07 June], Radong [14 June] and Namli [17 June], informs a press release. The third training held at Tumlabung was attended by Joint Director Horticulture who encouraged farmers to adopt organic farming. He stressed on the importance and need for organic farming.
Field In charge, Amar Jyoti NGO, Jeewan Mishra explained the documentation process and its importance in organic certification as well as Internal Control System. He said that farmers should give accurate crop data for tracenet entry. Tracenet is a way to expose their crop data to the world, he added.
The NGO is working with 236 farmers and 307 ha land in Namli GPU, the release adds.

Training on Organic Certification processes held for field functionaries

GANGTOK, 05 June: A daylong training on Organic Certification and its attendant processes was held for field functionaries of International Panaacea Ltd here on Wednesday. The training was held in association with the Sikkim Organic Mission of the Agriculture Department.
An IPL press release informs that Namgyal Bhutia, Joint Director, Training & Inputs, updated the trainees on the need for wider awareness among the farmers about organic farming and the conditions stipulated for the certification process.
The training also focused on large cardamom cultivation with Dr. AK Vijayan, Deputy Director, ICRI, RRI, Spices Board, Tadong, emphasizing the role of bumble-bees in the pollination of this cash crop. He also spoke on the different varieties of cardamom grown in Sikkim and the suitability of each to different terrains. He also spoke on ways and means to control the spread of the diseases which have been striking cardamom plantation in Sikkim.

MK Pradhan, Joint Director, SOM, in turn, briefed the field functionaries on ICS related documentation processes, data collection, trace-net entry and Internal and External Inspections, Generation of Scope Certificate, Crop production etc.

Training on organic farming and certification in South Sikkim

GANGTOK, 07 Feb: A day-long GPU level Farmers Awareness cum Training programme on Organic Farming & Certification under Sikkim Organic Mission was organized by Sresta Natural Bioproducts Pvt Ltd [SNBPL] at Rayoung-Tinketam GPU in South Sikkim on 05 February.
A press release informs that the main objective of the programme was to inform farmers on organic farming and its certification. The programme had panchayat president, Suk Maya Rai as chief guest. The release informs that the resource persons for the training were SNBPL manager, Mr Gautam and Maple Orgtech [India] Ltd Sikkim in-charge, Kishan Singh.
Speaking on Sikkim Organic Mission, Mr Gautam explained the Internal Control System and further spoke on the advantages of organic farming and disadvantages of chemical fertilizers with regard to health, soil and environment. Likewise, Mr Singh gave a demonstration on soil fertility management and pest and disease control. He also provided training on EM technology.

Training on ICS for Organic Farming at Tingchim Mangshilla

GANGTOK, 05 Feb: Awareness cum Capacity Building Training programme for farmers and field supervisors on Internal Control System (ICS) for Organic Farming Implementation and Certification was held at Panchayat Bhawan at Tingchim Mangshilla GPU, North Sikkim today. The programme was organized by the Service Provider, International Traceability Systems Limited, Sikkim under the guidance and supervision of Sikkim Organic Mission, Govt. of Sikkim.
A press release informs that 60 farmers participated in the training which was also attended by Panchayat president, Dilliram Subba, Zilla Panchayat, Tshering Doma Bhutia and F.A. Sungrap Bhutia, from the department. Training was imparted on seed treatment, preparation and use of liquid herbal pesticide for pest & disease management with the locally available farm inputs by Project In-charge, ITSL, Ramjee Prasad.

In due course, ward wise trainings will be conducted by Project In-charge and Field supervisors for successful implementation of organic farming, the release adds.
