GANGTOK, 18 June: Ward level training on concept of organic farming and certification process were organised in all the five wards under Namli GPU, East Sikkim to promote organic farming.
The training was conducted in Chuba [03 June], Khimsitang [05 June], Tumlabung [07 June], Radong [14 June] and Namli [17 June], informs a press release. The third training held at Tumlabung was attended by Joint Director Horticulture who encouraged farmers to adopt organic farming. He stressed on the importance and need for organic farming.
Field In charge, Amar Jyoti NGO, Jeewan Mishra explained the documentation process and its importance in organic certification as well as Internal Control System. He said that farmers should give accurate crop data for tracenet entry. Tracenet is a way to expose their crop data to the world, he added.
The NGO is working with 236 farmers and 307 ha land in Namli GPU, the release adds.
