New Delhi, 18 June [PIB]: The Union Human Resource
Development Minister today released the “Flash Statistics: Elementary Education
in India: Progress towards UEE for the year 2013-14”. The Statistics are
prepared annually by National University of Educational Planning &
Administration (NEUPA). They were presented to the Minister by the Vice
Chancellor of NEUPA, Prof. R. Govind in the presence of Secretary (SE&L) R
Bhattacharya, Additional Secretary (EE) Vrinda Sarup and other senior officials
of the Ministry.
The State ranking based on the EDI reveals that Puducherry,
Lakshadweep, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh & Karnataka are ranked in the first
five.
The Statistics cover 1.45 million schools spread over 662
Districts across all States and UTs. The District Information System for
Education (DISE) is a district based data base and gives information for
school, block, district, State & national disaggregates.
The Flash Statistics: 2013-14 also contain an Educational
Development Index (EDI) based on four constituents of Access, Infrastructure,
Teachers and Outcomes.
