DIKCHU, 15 June: Heavy rain over the past week damaged several houses at Jang village on Wednesday night forcing the affected families to evacuate to safer locations in the dark of the night.
The rain damaged the ekra house of Padam Bahadur Chettri at around 11 p.m. of Wednesday night and also tore through standing crop in his fields nearby. The family fled the house in time even as a slide peeled away from under the house tugging at its foundations. Soon, the house collapsed away. The family could not save any of their belongings.
At the same village, the wooden house of Sonam Tshering Lepcha also collapsed and the retaining wall of a REDRH construction belonging to Damber Bahadur Mahat also broke down even as houses belonging to Sarita Koirala and Jeewalall Koirala are under risk from landslides which have triggered below.
The Gram Vikash Adhikari, Tintek BAC, along with the officials visited the spot and took stock of damages, it is learnt.
