GANGTOK, 15 June: The NSS Volunteers of Soreng Government
Senior Secondary School [boys] and Namchi Girls Senior Secondary School are
participating in the North East Youth Festival at Kohima, Nagaland. The
festival started on 13 June and will go on till 17 June. The team had left
Sikkim on 11 June.
Speaking to NOW!, PET, Soreng School cum program officer,
Pintso Bhutia said that this is for the first time that both schools have been
invited for the said festival. It’s an annual program where a large number of schools
of the North East region participate, he added.
30 volunteers [boys and girls] from the state are taking
part in the festival. The boys team is led by program officer, Pintso Bhutia and
TR Karki whereas the girls team is led by program officer, Nisha Rai and Phurba
Lhaki Bhutia.
Speaking on the main purpose of the festival, Pintso Bhutia
informed that the program aims personality development of students with the
Youth Culture Exchange and Youth Leadership training as highlights.
The Sikkim team is scheduled to return home on 18 June.
