GANGTOK, 20 June: A district level co-ordination meeting on monsoon preparedness chaired by DC West, Tshewang Gyachho was held at Conference Hall, Zilla Panchayat Bhawan, Gyalshing on 19 June.
As per a press release, Zigmee Bhutia [DPO/DRM] spoke on the role and responsibilities of every department at the time of calamity. He appealed to the officials to coordinate and use the resources available during calamities and also requested them to keep their mobile phones switched on at all time. He also informed that all officers are to report to their stations in case there is a disaster or calamity and any form of official leave would expire automatically in times of disaster.
Sr. SP (W), DB Giri informed that IRB Pipley is designated as the Rescue Operation team by the government and all Out Posts in the district are designated as Control Rooms during a calamity and therefore he appealed to the gathering to immediately inform the nearest OP during a crisis.
DC West, Tshewang Gyachho had an open discussion with the heads of the department where they discussed the various problems faced by them. He also discussed the agendas of the meeting, uniform to be worn by all regular Drivers and Peons by 21 June, disposal of files within 24 hours, shortage of manpower formats to be filled up, Route Permit to cross Melli & Rangpo Check Posts, Junior Level Field Officers to visit the field 4 days a week, SE and equivalent Officer to visit sites 3 days a week, Hawker/trade/taxi/driving license to COI/SSC holder and no subletting thereof, registration of government land and settlement of encroachment, wearing of seat belt by taxi/ tourist drivers while driving, timely reply to RTI.
He also spoke about entry fee to be levied at Khechopalri and discussed the areas where the amount collected could be used. He instructed the Tourism Department to take up safety measures at Kanchenjunga Falls. He also directed DCSO to maintain fuel stock in the petrol pumps and to coordinate with STCS regarding the LPG crisis, the release mentions.
Regarding the various projects set up in the district, he directed the Labour Officer to furnish the details of labourers registered and the revenue collected till date. Further he appealed to the HODs to set up grievance redressal mechanism and submit the status report to the DC office of the complete and ongoing works in the district.
Earlier, the meeting began with a welcome address by Additional District Collector, in which he briefly highlighted the purpose of convening the meeting.
