PHE Deptt celebrates Paryavaran Mahotsav at Selep Tanki area

GANGTOK, 20 June: Paryavaran Mahotsav was celebrated by the officials and staff of Public Health Engineering Department and Social Justice Empowerment & Welfare Department along with the public of Bojoghari and Selep tank area today.
As per a press release, PHE Minister Tulsi Devi Rai was present as the chief guest for the programme and actively participated in the plantation drive which was technically assisted by the senior officials of Forest Department, Nodal Officer, HP Rai, Additional Director of Sericulture Directorate, KB Ghaley, ACF, Parks & Garden and ACF, Sikkim Biodiversity Board, Peggyla T. Venchungpa.
The Minister requested all the people of Sikkim to come forward for Green Sikkim and keep Sikkim free from pollution. She also mentioned that water sources can only be protected if the forests in the upper reaches of Sikkim Himalayas are conserved.
Around 100 saplings of Machilus edulis (Phunche) and Michelia excels (Rani Chaanp) were planted as part of the Paryavaran Mahotsav, the release mentions.
