MANGAN, 15 June: Chief Justice, High Court of Sikkim, Justice Narendra Kumar Jain laid the foundation stone for a district court building here today. He was accompanied by Judge, High Court of Sikkim, Justice SP Wangdi, and Deputy Speaker Sonam Gyatso Lepcha.
Justice Jain, in a brief address, urged the concerned department to ensure timely completion of this Rs. 14,80,20,993 project, which apart from the court complex, includes the approach road and also living quarters for the Judicial Magistrate and CJM along with District & Sessions Judge
The CJ directed that there be no compromise in quality and welcomed the project as one which will bring the judicial processes closer to the people of the North Sikkim who will soon not need to travel all the way to Gangtok [where the North District & Sessions Court is currently located].
Justice Wangdi also heralded the occasion as historic for the people of North Sikkim and thanked the government for development of such infrastructure. He added that once the construction was completed, people from Dzongu and Chungthang and other parts of the district will also get a chance to access legal studies.
The Chief Engineer [Buildings], RD Bhutia, presented a brief report on the project while the site plan was explained by the AE-Buildings, Karma Lachenpa.
Earlier, the District & Sessions Judge [North], Jagat Rai, presented the welcome address and the function concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by CJM [E&N] Suraj Chettri.
Later, a plantation drive was undertaken in the court premises.
The function was also attended by former Judge, AP Subba, Zilla Adhakshya North, Anguli Lepcha, Up-Adhakshya NT Lepcha, Secretary Buildings MB Gurung, DC North TN Kazi, SP RN Yadav, officials from the High Court and the officials from various departments of North District.
