GANGTOK, 20 June: The Ecclesiastical Affairs Department, led by its Secretary Tenzing Gelek, observed Paryavaran Mahotsav with a plantation drive today at Sa-Ngor Gonpa, Rongyek. The Department planted 120 saplings of Rani Chaanp, Nevara, Cherry, Gagun, and fodder plants.
As per a press release, the plantation started with prayers by monks of Sa-Ngor Gonpa led by the Dorji Lopon Zamyang Gonpo, for peace and prosperity of the people of Sikkim and all sentient beings. Officials from the forest department were on the spot to assist and guide the Department and with their help, the plantation was carried out by 35 officers and staffs of the department along with the monks of the monastery.
In addition, all major religious institutions, monastic schools, Sanskrit Pathshalas in the State were also directed to carry out the plantation to celebrate the Paryavaran Mahotsav 2014, the release informs.
Gopal Pradhan [Pr. Scientist], BL Bhattaria [ACF (EPC)], KB Basnett [ACF Working Plan], Barun Kr. Rai [ACF NTFP], TB Gurung [ACF RVK] and TR Chettri [HFG (Gangtok)] were present on the spot to assist the officers and staff of the Ecclesiastical Affairs Department.
