GANGTOK, 15 June: A day-long plantation drive was conducted
by the Food & Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department [FCSCAD], East
Sikkim at Pakyong Food Godown complex in East Sikkim on Saturday. More than 250
saplings of different varieties were planted during the drive.
Secretary, DP Sharma, Additional Secretary, Deepa Rani Thapa
and other senior officials of FCSCAD along with Panchayat members, Fair Price
Shop owners and local people of the area participated in the drive.
A press release issued by FCSCAD Deputy Director [East],
Pintso Namgyal informs that the main objective of the plantation drive was to
create awareness towards preserving the environment and also to encourage the
general public towards planting greens in their locality. The release also
states that the plantation drive was carried out for the beautification of the
Food Godown complex.
