DIKCHU, 15 June: Two executive members of Dikchu Youth Welfare Association were recently in New Delhi for the sensitization programme on Prevention of Trafficking of Women and Children organized there by the National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child Development Regional Centre. The sensitization was held for PRIs and NGOs from high incidence districts of the Eastern region.
The two DYWA members, its general secretary Chungchung Tongden Lepcha and publicity secretary Karma Tshering Bhutia represented the NGO at the programme which was conducted from 09 to 11 June, 2014.
The objectives of the training included acquainting the participants to the nature, process, magnitude and consequences of trafficking of women and children, to make them aware about the existing legal provision and support services for rescue and rehabilitation of trafficked women and children and to help them understand the need and importance of networking and developing linkages of the stakeholders to combat trafficking in their respective regions.
