GANGTOK, 18 March: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, ICAR Sikkim Centre, Ranipool, organized an Animal Health Camp on 15 March at Nandok in East Sikkim under the
National Initiative on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) project. The need for such a camp was necessitated after climate change has noticeable affected
reproductive and productive performance of livestock even in Sikkim, informs a press communiqué received from Dr. Amulya Kumar Mohanty, the KVK Programme

Mixed farming combining agriculture and livestock plays an important role in strenghtening the rural economy of Sikkim, the release highlights, while adding
that the main aim behind the animal health camp was to make farmers “aware about animal health as well as providing necessary treatment to their livestock”.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Mohanty, who emphasized the importance of the livestock sector for livelihood security of farmers and how this required
improvement in management of housing, breeding, feeding and health coverage.
More than 65 farmers from Nandok attended and received treatment for their livestock. This camp covered treatment of more than 100 cattle, 112 goats, 12 pigs
and more than 800 backyard poultry birds.
