GANGTOK, 17 June: A three-day workshop on Internal Control System on Organic Farming and Certification was held by SIMFED for the Federation of ICS staffs and officials at the Conference Hall of the Cooperation Department located in the Sahakari Bhawan from 12-14 June.
As per a press release, the workshop was organized mainly to refresh and upgrade the field functionaries and officials in regards to Internal Control System for Organic Farming and Certification.
The event comprised of screening of Prime Minister’s speech in the Parliament, wherein Sikkim's pioneering work in organic farming was highlighted. The workshop covered all aspects of ICS Organic farming and Certification with respect to data collection, soil sample collection, documentation trace net entry, marketing, sustainability of Organic farming etc.
All subjects were covered in detail with the aid of power point presentation. The workshop comprised of intensive deliberations by Manager, SIMFED on importance of organic farming & certification and role & importance of Sikkim in the Organic Agriculture Field all over the world, the release mentions.
On the last day, an evaluation session of each field functionary was held. In the concluding period of the workshop Dr. Yashoda Pradhan [Addl. Executive Directors, SOM] in her deliberation touched upon the finer points of ICS, Organic Certification and how farmers may be encouraged to take up organic farming in a more committed way in order to be sustainable.
Kuber Bhandari [MD, SIMFED] in his speech asked all the field functionaries to take up their works seriously and in a committed way so as to make the whole programme successful and sustainable, thus, contributing to the Chief Minister’s vision of making Sikkim fully organic by 2015.
