NAMCHI, 15 June: The Sikkim Himalayan Veterans' Tournament organised by Badminton Association of Namchi (BAN) was held on 14-15 June at Namchi Indoor Stadium.
64 veteran badminton players from Gangtok, Jorethang, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong, Namchi and NHPC are participating in the tournament. This two-day tournament was formally inaugurated by Minister for Roads and Bridges and Cultural Affairs, GM Gurung on 14 June.
The finals were held on the second day today which had DC South, Prabhakar Verma as the chief guest.
The winners of the mixed doubles category were Rajendra Maskey and Ringzing Uden of Namchi while Ashok Agarwal and Elina Lepcha were the runners-up. 55 plus doubles was won by Madan Subba and Anil Gajmer of Darjeeling followed by Yang Lama and M Tamang of Kalimpong.
The winner of the 40 plus singles category was Jayant Kalikotey of Darjeeling while Tshering Gyalpo of Darjeeling was the runners up. The 40 plus doubles category was won by Yogesh Rai and Jayant Kalikotey of Darjeeling while Samir Singhal and Amit Garg of Darjeeling were the runners up.
Sajan Limboo of Namchi won the 45 plus singles category followed by Anil Pradhan of Darjeeling was the runners up. The 45 plus doubles category had Rajendra Maskey and Sajan Limboo of Namchi as winners followed by Naresh Pradhan and Samden Dukpa of Darjeeling in second place.
