GANGTOK, 13 Nov: The girls’ basket ball team of Eklavya Model Residential School, Gangyap, West Sikkim, has emerged the champions of the CBSE Cup [Cluster-I] North East Region Basketball Tournament 2011-12 in Guwahati.
Defending champions, EMRS thrashed highly billed Delhi Public School, Guwahati, in the finals played on Saturday. The girls from Sikkim fought hard and soon took the lead in the final match which ended with a score of 78-08.
With this victory, the EMRS team has qualified to represent the North East Region in the CBSE National Championship scheduled to be held in Chennai next month.
The EMRS girls also bagged the Most Disciplined Team of the Championship trophy for the second consecutive year. EMRS captain, Doma Bhutia, received the Most Valuable Player of the Final Match and also the Prestigious Best Player of the Championship.
A 12-member EMRS girls’ basketball team had participated in the championship which had over 28 schools from the North-East fighting for the title.
A teacher of the school shared that the EMRS dazzled everyone with their exceptional play, winning hearts and appreciation of all present in the championship. It was also mentioned that it was a great victory and achievement for the school given the fact that EMRS still does not have a proper basketball court.
