GANGTOK, 11 Nov: A programme to mark the first National Education Day was organised in Samalingdum JHS, Ranka BAC, East Sikkim. The school participated in the nationwide campaign ‘Shiksha Ka Haq Abhiyan’ by organising a rally from Samalingdum Suspension bridge till Sivic village [ITBP Camp area] in the locality, informs a press release.
During the procession, students displayed different placards and banners highlighting the RTE and other relevant topics as per the guidelines provided, the release informs. In the school premises, the headmaster, Bhim Shamser Chettri, read out the messages of the Prime Minister, HRDD Minister of India, and the Chief Minister of Sikkim, to the gathering comprising of school students, teachers, SMC members, ex-panchayat, parents and guardians.
The students also performed a short play ‘Aafno Gaala Aafnai Lapta’ showcasing the importance of education and various implications therein, the release adds. A total of 15 students of each class delivered speeches highlighting the importance of the day. Some students recited poems in English, Hindi, Nepali and Bhutia languages. Teachers, Bejoy Khawas, DK Rai, Meera Rai and GT Bhutia also expressed their views on the occasion.
