GANGTOK, 09 Nov: ATMA organised a training programme on ‘Area Expansion, Increasing Productivity and Marketing of Mustard’ at Nazitam today, informs a press release.
The training was attended by around 40 farmers, livelihood school trainees, VLW, Farm managers of concerned area where the farmers were imparted training on growing mustard in compact areas, the release informs.
The main objective of the training was to generate more income by increasing productivity, area expansion and cultivation of mustard crop using compact area approach.
It was also informed that 350 kgs of mustard seed had been received along with manure which is to be distributed to farmers of Martam and Nazitam. Deputy Director, ATMA, Asha Lama stressed on compact area approach by covering 44 hectares and marketing the produce either to the department as seeds or to SIMFED for grains, the release mentions.
While, Deputy Director Soil, Pem Doma Lepcha emphasized on the importance of soil health, methodology on soil sampling , collection and importance of soil health card in organic farming. HDO, RK Sharma highlighted on control and management of pests and disease through cultural, mechanical and biolological method for Rabi crops organically.
