GANGTOK, 19 Aug: The Gram Sabha of Shankhu Radhu Khandu GPU under Dentam GVK of Maneybong-Dentam constituency was held on 16 August at the Gram Prashasanik Kendra at Shanku, an official press release informs. The meeting was chaired by Panchayat President Tulsi Bahadur Chauhan and was also attended by Sabitri Thapa, Zilla Member-Shanku Hee; Bishnu Chamling, former Panchayat and Board Member-SICUN; Khem Nath Adhikari of Sikkim Organics, Gram Vikash Adhikari-Dentam; JP Chettri, HM, Khandu Secondary School, APO (MGNREGA) Dentam and a host of other line department officials.
The panchayats from all seven wards presented the demands of their respective wards seeking approval of the Gram Sabha and these were passed unanimously.
The GPU had specially invited officials from Sikkim Organics, NERLEP and SICUN in addition to other line departments for the benefit of the members of Gram Sabha.
Bishnu Chamling, a former Panchayat and now a SICUN board member, highlighted the relevance and essence of Gram Sabhas and congratulated the GPU for organizing such an extensive Gram Sabha.
Similarly, Khem Nath Adhikari of Sikkim Organics refreshed he members present on the basics of organic farming, marketing, certification and the recognition the State has received in Organic farming throughout the world.
Bhumika Sharma, Dentam Block Coordinator-NERLEP, in turn explained the dynamics of NERLEP and the initiatives that are being taken up under the project. The APO (MGNREGA) Dentam made a power-point presentation on labour budget, AADHAR shedding, account freezing of Job Card Holders and the status of MGNREGS in the GPU.
The Gram Vikash Adhikari-Dentam, Himmat Rai, also addressed the house and congratulated the panchyats for conducting their Gram Sabha efficiently.
